The Gap Luncheon
received the following coverage in Crain's: Mayor
Michael Bloomberg is prepared to propose tax increases to help close
next year's projected $5 billion city budget gap, says Councilman
David Weprin, chairman of the City Council's Finance Committee. Speaking
to a meeting of the Government Affairs Professionals, Mr. Weprin said,
"Everything we've heard from his people is to be prepared after the
election for proposals from his side on taxes." A Bloomberg spokesman
did not dispute Mr. Weprin's comments. He noted that the mayor has
said that next year's budget will be "very difficult" and that both
the revenue and expenditure side of the budget ledger must be examined
to keep city finances balanced. |
